I first met Maurice O’Connor, Irish singer songwriter Sample Answer, at Brixton Jamm club in London in early 2014. We hit it off pretty quickly. After finding out we had a similar taste in music, we agreed to jam that same week. It turned out that Maurice had an intermittent medical condition which meant he could not play guitar. I stepped in and learnt all his songs and Maurice sang, played harmonica and tambourine.
From there, I became his lead guitarist at live gigs. We have performed at venues all over London, including Camden Rocks and The Big Noise festivals, and the Natural History Museum Late Sessions.
“I’ve had more fun playing with Max then any other lead guitarist so far. I feel it’s because he’s really able to understand what’s happening and feel where things are going. Too many lead guitarists over do things. Max can do exactly what he’s supposed to and do it right.”
Recently signed to Mondo Management, with artists such as Damien Rice and Damien Gray on their books, Maurice has released his debut EP and has been receiving rave reviews. The title track Good Boy has already been championed by Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac and the video for the song has been played on MTV. He is currently recording with a variety of producers and working on his next EP.
